Sam Turner has been at the helm of Action Pumps & Irrigation in Leongatha for almost two and a half years, but the business itself has been serving the region for a quarter of a century. Sam says he has plans for it to be part of the community for at least that long again.
The business is split into two streams – one for pumps and one for commercial and domestic plumbing. It’s a perfect match, with Sam’s background in plumbing combined with the expertise of his store manager Ken, who has been in the business since 2001. In the short period since Sam bought the business, the staff of two has grown to five and Sam proudly lays claim to being at the top of Davey’s sales ladder.
Based in a predominately dairy farm region of Gippsland, Sam and his team work with local dairy farmers to install and setup dairy irrigation systems, as well as helping residential rural properties gain access to mains water supply. They service anywhere from Korumburra to Sale in the north-east of Victoria. “Recently we got the chance to work on a rotary dairy, one of only three of its kind in all of Australia, installing all the washdown and plumbing needs for the customer, all with Davey products.” Sam says that they continue to use Davey products because they like to support an Australian company, and that the after-sales support is far superior to anyone else. “Davey provide products that you can trust, as well as a team you know will always have your back. My staff attend frequent training on new Davey products and updates, and the Davey team are always supportive with any queries or issues we have.” Sam says running a successful business is also about how much you give back to the community. “Our region has been through a bit over the past few years, particularly the damage from the bushfires. We ran a bushfire appeal, and Davey were generous enough to donate some pumps for the community to use.”
