In the early days it was just Samuel Dover, working the "farmers exchange" in Boonah. Over the years, family joined the list of staff and today the business is run by Murray and Bob Dover. Bob who manages the Macquarie Street premises. "I can remember as a young fella mowing lawns and driving tractors for my grandfather, however when I left school it was banking that interested me." It would be 13 years later in 1981 that Bob decided to join the family business full time at the request of his father- they had lost a number of good staff to local competitors and they needed to regroup. Today Bob is joined by his own sons Kent and Ryan, Kent looks after design and completion of projects alongside long-time loyal staff member Brian Surawski, and Ryan who handles installations. Ray Harvey who has been with firm over 49 years has been mainly responsible for the promotion of Davey Products in the district. They currently have 60-70 staff employed across all their locations. Just recently they completed a nine-tower pivot irrigation project on a turf farm in Beaudesert using a 50 Hp Davey pump. The town of Boonah is located within the Scenic Rim Region of QLD which supports industries like turf farming, vegetable growing and dairy farming. "Much of our business is generated by word of mouth and is generational- they have travel as far east as the Gold Coast, west to Millmerran, north to Childers and as south as Deepwater." Business for them over the past 12-18 months has been very good with the Government tax write-off incentive schemes and the easing of the drought. Irrigation equipment is always needed, "when water is plentiful farmers pump from the streams and channels but in times of drought, they need to access bore water."
