If there’s a theme at Town & Country Water Shop, it’s continuity.
The business started out as a small corner store in the 1980s, and Luke Fitzgerald had joined his dad in the business by 1996. The duo worked together, with his father focused on service and larger industry projects, while Luke looked after the retail side. When Luke’s dad headed towards retirement in 2010, Luke stepped up as manager. Sadly, Luke’s father passed away in 2020, but the business remains and continues to grow. Over the years, Town & Country has built long term relationships with customers, staff and suppliers. “As a pioneering company from its start in the 80s, Town & Country Water Shop always sought the most reliable brand,” Luke says. “Davey was the first pump company we ever had, and we have stuck with them over 30 years. We’ve tried other pump brands, but they come and go. We always keep Davey.”
“Over time I have built relationships with the different managers and reps. There has always been a continuity of people as they progress through their roles, but there is always someone I can ring if I have a problem, I’m not just a number.” Town & Country Water Shop has a wide range of customers who are after different products which Luke always tries his best to provide. “We get people looking for products ranging from small pressure system pumps or irrigation for farms to water for towns. “We have a heavy industrial focus, particularly pumps and irrigation and recently we have been starting to sell to mining companies, outside our local industry of food processing plants,” Luke says. “They will order equipment that needs to be sent as far as Queensland. They choose us because of our great technical knowledge. We have always been the company that says if you can’t find a fix, we will sort it out. Water is essential, and it will always be a scarce resource. The value will get higher and higher, so our technical ability and our ability to service is key.” While the customer base is diverse, what they often have in common is their brand preference. “People always ask for a Davey, they are the default name,” Luke says.
