What is Legionnaires’ disease?

Legionnaires’ disease is a lung infection similar to pneumonia and is caused by breathing airborne particles carrying legionella – a bacteria found in soil or contaminated water.

Are you protecting yourself, your friends and family with regular spa maintenance? Do you know how often you should be testing your water to ensure it’s safe? Are you using the right products to get the job done? Don’t wait until someone gets sick before you start taking spa maintenance seriously.

Why is regular spa pool maintenance important?

Most people don’t maintain their spa pools properly. If you just empty and refill your spa when the water gets dirty, without cleaning your pipes and filters, you’re running clean water through dirty pipes and filters. As time goes on, your pipes and filters are filling up with gunk which affects the water you, your friends and your family are soaking in.

What does healthy spa pool maintenance look like?

Ideally you should drain your spa and treat it with Poppits Pipe Degreaser three times a year, more if you are using the spa every day. You should also clean your filters every 2 weeks when the spa is in use using Poppits Cartridge Cleaner. If your filters are full of gunk, they won’t be doing their job which is removing impurities from the water in your spa.

How often should you test your spa water?

To ensure your spa water is healthy and free from nasties, you should be testing your spa pool water at least once a week. The more you use it, the more frequently you should be testing the water. If you’re managing a water quality issue, then daily testing is recommended until the issue is resolved.

Poppits Spa Pipe Degreaser

An important maintenance step when you drain your spa pool water. Poppits Spa Pipe Degreaser removes body fats, algae, shed skin and hair which accumulate in the pipes and hinder the flow of water. Simply add it into the existing spa water, run the spa for about an hour, then drain the water out.

Poppits Filter Cartridge Cleaner

Remove spa filters every 2 weeks and soak them in Poppits Filter Cartridge Cleaner. It degreases the cartridge by oxidising the fats, without harming the filter cartridge. This leaves your filter clean and free from any build-up, so it works at its best.

Poppits 4 Way Test Strips

These fast acting and accurate strips help you maintain the perfect balance for a safe and healthy swimming environment.

Tests for Peroxide, Alkalinity, pH and Total Hardness.

The pool had absolutely no intrusive smell or feel, and there was never any need to shower after swimming as the pool water was much better than even filtered water in our residence”
