About Us

They say it’s not what you know, but who you know in business. And that’s exactly the case for Elliot Dock from DJ’s Electric Motor and Pump Centre in Ipswich, Queensland.

DJ’s was established nearly 50 years ago by Darryl and Janet Trapp, and originally started as a rewind business for electric motors. Over the years they diversified into hardware, supplying tools, nails, drills, and other daily hardware needs. They relocated their business ten years ago due to the 2011 floods. The move was the catalyst for Darryl to evolve and, he decided to concentrate on the pumps and irrigation supplies, as it complimented his motor business and rewinding then became a part of DJ’s past. Elliot was a supplier sales representative to DJ’s, and had built a strong relationship with the Trapp’s over the years. “One day, I was sitting down for coffee with Darryl, and he mentioned he was looking for someone to help him with sales, so I said what about me? I was looking to move on from my current role to be closer to home, and I knew Darryl would look after me,” Elliot says. Elliot is now in the process of purchasing the business from Darryl and Janet and as they look to retirement, he’s looking forward to continuing their legacy. “Because of my business development background, and my connections with similar customers, I’ve been able to grow the business quite quickly. We’ve grown from six employees to 10, and we now have a strong online presence to compliment the physical shop,” Elliot says. DJ’s focus is on residential customers, especially those looking for household pumps or water pressure systems, but he also works with plumbers, electricians and real estate agents and this has been a critical part of their growth.

“When Davey released the new RainBank, it became a premier product for DJ’s to sell. We identified plumbers and real estate agents as a core market for this technology - an automatic controller for rainwater harvesting, with the ability to switch between mains and tank water - would really appeal to their clients. Davey helped DJ’s promote and market the product to this sector, and it’s really taken off because of that. It’s now one of our bestselling Davey products,” Elliot says.

“It’s been an awesome ride with Davey over the past few years since I’ve come on board, and I look forward to keeping it going for years to come.” Elliott says.
