About Us

Electel is an electrical contracting business based in Traralgon, Victoria. It was started by Howard Truin out of a small shed at home with three other local electricians in 1985. The company is now managed by two of Howard’s children, Steve and Christine in a large shop premises they’ve expanded over the years.

One of their 15 employees is Dave Bartlett, who is the Sales and Workshop Manager. Dave has known the Truin family since he was born and loves working in a family run business. “I was working as motor rewinder in Warragul about 15 years ago, and the shop was busy and needed an extra set of hands, so that’s when I came on board,” Dave says. “The business started off as just looking after electrical contracting, but over the years we’ve grown to take on repairs of motors, pumps, welders, generators & small electrical tools, and also sell a large range of water pumps, electric motors, water tanks, water filtration and galvanised, stainless and poly fittings. We supply product to local plumbers and tradies, and also domestic water products for households, such as water pumps and pressure systems. “The repair side of the business pairs well with the retail side and plays a big part in our sales. We get a lot of customers who come in for a repair but walk away with a new pump.” Dave says Electel have always had a good relationship with Davey, and he and the staff have a lot of confidence in selling the product.

“We get great customer support, which is generally hassle free from the Davey team. We know we have back up from them where and when we need it.”

When the bushfires hit the region in 2019, Electel had learnt from previous seasons to be well stocked with firefighters to assist local residents to help battle any blazes. “We were fairly well prepared thanks to Davey and had a lot of the Firefighter pumps in stock ready to get to those in need. We even supplied neighbouring communities who were short on pumps,” Dave says.
