About Us

Seventy or so years ago, Ryan Mawhoods’ great-great-grandfather opened a small hardware store in Oberon, NSW. Now, Ryan, his Dad, Garry and brother Max hold the reins of one of Oberon’s longest running businesses.

Mawhoods started out inside the local grocery store, an offshoot selling daily hardware supplies to those buying their milk and eggs. Ryan’s Pop then decided to grow the business, so he took over the hardware side, and his brother continued to look after the grocery store. Then, 13 years ago the business was handed down to Ryan’s dad Gary, who expanded the shop even further to its own site right across the road, under the Mitre 10 hardware franchise name. “Now we sell everything, from timber, tools, and your day-to-day hardware supplies to whitegoods and kitchenware, and our customers range from DIY homeowners to tradies like plumbers and chippies. We’re really a one-stop shop for the local community,” Ryan says. Mawhoods’ mostly sell Davey household water products including water pressure, heating and also pool pumps. “We do sell some irrigation products and bore pumps, as there are a lot of larger properties out here that need access to water. For those customers, we’ll head offsite to help them with installation and troubleshoot any issues, but our main focus is on the retail side of the business, and helping customers select the right product instore.” Ryan has only just started working closely with the Davey Water Products account at Mawhoods, but can see why his family has stuck with them over the years. “The team is great to work with, and always have our back, going the extra mile with support. We’ve always had a great relationship with our local rep Matt Medway in particular, he just knows how to get stuff done.” Ryan says when he eventually takes over the family business, he’s looking forward to continuing to work with Davey.

“They’re one of our trusted business partners, so we want to keep that going into the future.”
