Think Water was originally known as Independent Water Group (IWG), an independently owned and branded business network specialising in irrigation, pumping and filtration services. In 2007, it became Think Water Australia, a franchise group, with rebranded stores that has now has grown to 33 stores in Australia, and 18 in New Zealand. Gary has been running his own irrigation business for over 30 years. In the early days, it was just Gary, his wife Lorraine as the office manager & an irrigation technician, and they worked strictly in domestic irrigation, supplying household water products for water pressure and heating. The business started to pick up in those first five years, and he expanded into more commercial work, mainly for local councils in the region. “With the extra work, we started selling more product, and had to put on more staff,” says Gary. “Then about 12 years ago, as we were really making a name for ourselves in the region, we were approached by Think Water to join their franchise group. Once we joined Think Water, the business hit a whole other level. We had five staff at that stage, which included myself, my wife, son and daughter and now we’re a staff of 10, with a bigger store to hold our growing product range and service more customers.” Part of this growth saw Gary and his team take on many agriculture customers and projects. “We employed a full-time irrigation designer to help with larger scale commercial installations. Now, our split between customers is approximately 60 percent agriculture and 40 percent domestic and turf irrigation. Mildura is quite a large horticulture region, so we work with a lot of table grape, citrus and dried fruit orchards, as well as almonds,” Gary says. Gary’s business was one of the first major pump dealers in Mildura, and they’ve been selling Davey Water products since the beginning.
