Glen and Katrina had returned home to Victoria after working interstate for years, when a family friend offered Katrina a job as the manager at the local pump shop in Geelong. She took the job and then a few months later the store was up for sale. “We thought, what a good opportunity to own a great business, so we jumped straight in, and haven’t looked back,” Katrina says. Katrina comes from a business management background in mining and construction, and her husband is a licensed plumber, so taking on ownership of Webster’s nicely combines both of their expertise. “When we took over, the business was mainly focused on repair and maintenance of pumps, in the workshop or onsite. Being based in Geelong, we have a lot of traditional rural customers looking for products and support for water transfer and water access for stock, which is still a large part of our business. We’ve started focusing the business on the commercial and industrial irrigation space also, and have started to undertake larger design and installations for commercial customers around town.” Katrina says this balance is important to help with the seasonal nature of some of their work. They started with five staff when they purchased the business, but due to growth, they now have a staff of nine. 

Webster’s has worked closely with Davey throughout the years as they know it’s a brand people gravitate towards. “When our customers think pumps, they think Davey, and know we’re selling a well-trusted, Australian brand.” And when it comes to giving back to their local community, Katrina says that’s even more important in a regional town. “The local sports and golf clubs, and schools are the lifeblood of our community, so we’re big on giving back and supporting them. They’re also our customers, so it’s good to support them however we can.”
