Killing Bacteria in your Water

Just call us the UV bacteria killers!

Don’t fall off your seat, but did you know there is only one way to entirely kill bacteria in your water (or at least destroy its DNA structure and render it harmless), and that’s by using UV light?

Killing Bacteria In Your Water

It’s not just a case of running your water through a sunbed (that would be silly). What you need is three stage filtration. This is how it works:

Stage 1: Coarse filtration – this is where larger particles of dirt, decaying leaves, rust and scale are captured. Poly Pleated Sediment filter cartridges are used here as these can hold a lot of dirt without affecting your water pressure, plus they can be cleaned and reused.

Stage 2: Fine filtration – this puts a stop to the smaller particles and further removes rust along with sand, silt, algae and cryptosporidium cysts (>99% effective for a 1 micron cartridge). We use Polyspun Sediment filter cartridges which have no chemical residue or loose fibres.

Stage 3: UV filtration – this is where the magic happens. Water passes through a cartridge containing a UV lamp which absolutely annihilates the organisms living in your water. Goodbye viruses like SARS CoV and hepatitis, bacteria like E. coli and salmonella, algae and fungi, and cysts like giardia or cryptosporidium.

If you’re treating rainwater, bore or surface water then the Microlene Aquashield Centurion is a great choice with all three stages of filtration contained in one neat and tidy unit. While you might not be installing it yourself (probably a job best left to one of our Davey Master Dealers)

For those of you who use a combination of tank and mains water then the Microlene Aquashield Max is a great solution and also comes in a tidy unit. It prioritises tank water, seamlessly switching to mains when your tank is low, plus gives you the same 3-stage water filtration as the Centurion.

Both these powerful bacteria-busting, dirt-destroying water treatment systems work overtime to ensure a crisp, clean water supply no matter how murky its origins.
