Take control of your water quality

Whether you’re on tank water or town water, did you know there is only one way to ensure your water is entirely free from harmful bugs and bacteria – including cryptosporidium? Don’t rely on other people to ensure your family’s water is safe. Find out how 3-stage UV water filtration can literally become your life saver.

Davey is serious about water treatment!

Most of the serious water contamination outbreaks which have made headlines in New Zealand over the past several years such as Havelock North and Queenstown, are concerned with mains water supply. While we don’t want to get into the debate about how mains water is treated by councils, we know that there is only one way to guarantee the quality of your household water and that’s through three-stage UV water filtration.

How do you choose the best water treatment system for your home?

At Davey, we’re not talking filtering a bit of sediment or chemicals – we’re talking complete annihilation of organisms that can seriously hurt your family. Which is why the Microlene Aquashield Centurion is our best-selling water treatment system for whole house water treatment. This neat and tidy unit contains coarse filtration, fine filtration, and UV sterilisation and can be retrofitted to your existing plumbing.

What is three-stage UV filtration and how does it work?

There is only one way to ensure your water is entirely free from harmful bugs and bacteria such as cryptosporidium and giardia, and that’s by using UV sterilisation as part of a three-stage water treatment system.

The Davey Microlene Centurion Aquashield is a whole house water treatment solution which can be fitted to the existing plumbing of your mains water supply in a neat and tidy unit – giving you total peace of mind that your water is safe to drink, bathe in and brush your teeth with. Here’s how it works:

Stage 1: Coarse filtration – this is where larger particles of dirt, decaying leaves, rust and scale are captured. Poly Pleated Sediment filter cartridges are used here as these can hold a lot of dirt without affecting your water pressure, plus they can be cleaned and reused.

Stage 2: Fine filtration – this puts a stop to the smaller particles and further removes rust along with sand, silt, algae and cryptosporidium cysts (>99% effective for a 1 micron cartridge). We use Polyspun Sediment filter cartridges which have no chemical residue or loose fibres.

Stage 3: UV filtration – this is where the magic happens. Water passes through a cartridge containing a UV lamp which absolutely annihilates the organisms living in your water. Goodbye cryptosporidium along with viruses like SARS CoV and hepatitis, bacteria like E. coli and salmonella, algae and fungi, and cysts like giardia.

Common questions:

The KMCS is the standard system and controller.
The KMCXS is the same ‘system’, but the controller provides more connectivity (wifi and bluetooth) and options for external monitoring .
Talk to your nearest Davey Dealer about which is right for you.

There is the old saying, you get what you pay for. We stand by the quality of all our Davey products and use the best parts and assembly methods to ensure a superior product that lasts. For example, the Microlene Aquashield Centurion housing is made in Italy and has a moulded manifold (one solid piece) which means there is no risk of leakage. It is assembled in Canada and boasts a robust 316 Stainless Steel UV chamber and UV lamps which outlast others on the market.

If you’re very handy, then yes, but we always recommend you talk to a Davey Master Dealer so they can advise you on the best approach and ensure your Davey 10 year warranty* is validated.
*Industry leading warranty: 10 years on stainless UV chamber, 3 years on electronic controller, 14 months on lamps, sensors and sleeves, 12 months on filter housings

This part is super easy, and you don’t even have to be particularly handy to be able to do this. You can purchase replacement cartridges and lamps through your local Davey Master Dealer who will often keep a record of when your filters are due for replacing – making it super easy to never miss a filter change.

One of the most important things to remember with a system like this, is that it only works if the filters and lamps are replaced regularly. The last thing you need is a build of gunk which starts seeping into your water supply.

  • Your 10,000 hour UV lamp needs to be changed approx every 14 months (the longest lasting lamp on the market)
  • The polyspun cartridge needs to be changed every six months
  • The pleated cartridge every six to twelve months depending on the quality of water it is filtering.

If you’re on municipal/council supply, no. If you are on tank supply you likely already have a pump and won’t require an additional one. Talk to your nearest Davey Master Dealer for more information.
